Nowhere else offers such a potent blend of hedonism and escapism as Blackpool and Lytham St Annes. It also boasts a refined retreat for those seeking gentility. Despite having been subjected to caustic one-liners, Modern Blackpool remains an unrivaled destination in delivering an indulgent and liberating experience. Paul O’Grady, who frequented the town with Lily Savage in the late nineties, once quipped, I like a Blackpool breakfast, me. Twenty ciggies and a cup of tea. A recent visit in April revealed that Ma Kellys North’s interior was already filled with revelers enjoying the lively ambiance.

During the s, patrons at a pub were entertained by singer Nick Jones who performed lively versions of popular songs by artists such as Bay City Rollers, Tom Jones, and Abba. The jovial ambiance was infectious and tempting enough to keep me there for hours. However, to avoid Mother Superior’s performance aimed at spiritual purification (as jokingly mentioned by Ned Jones), I proceeded towards North Pier. The trams that ran along the coastline from Starr Gate offered an excellent view of the flamboyant Golden Mile. As for a more quaint experience, I ventured into the side streets off South Pier.

Indulge in the Hidden Culinary Delight at Bentley’s renowned for serving the most exceptional fish and chips in town. Savor the delectable taste of the perfectly battered cod, crunchy chips, and mushy peas that will leave you wanting more. As the evening progresses, the vibrant atmosphere intensifies with the blasting of Wham’s Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go from the Pleasure Beach and the lively karaoke bars. However, it’s understandable that middle-aged stamina has its limits, and the tranquil surroundings of Lytham St Annes offer an ideal holiday experience. The vast beaches, expansive grassy dunes, and boundless skies beckon you to unwind and enjoy a relaxing getaway.

Immerse yourself in a tranquil and serene atmosphere while basking in the unique experience of serenity. The Best Western Glendower hotel, located on St Annes seafront (with rooms starting at £ for double occupancy with no meals), offers the perfect escape where you can revel in peace and harmony. Within just a two-minute stroll, visitors will find themselves standing before the elegant Grade I-listed Victorian pier featuring a charmingly preserved vintage amusement arcade. Nearby, the Peace and Happiness Garden boasts fresh bouquets of flowers and a statue of Les Dawson, a former resident of St Annes. Embark further along the shore and witness the stunning row of pastel-coloured beach huts overlooking the sea, while gazing upon a lone boy flying a green and red kite. As I steadily and cautiously explored beyond the shoreline, I found myself…

As night descended, the glimmering lights of Blackpool Tower were visible in the distance from the muddy shores. The subsequent morning commenced with a hearty breakfast of eggs Lancashire (consisting of eggs benedict and black puddingat Ashton Gardens’ Pavilion cafe prior to boarding a brief bus transportation to Lytham Hall. Regarded as one of England’s most exceptional Georgian dwellings, this magnificent mansion is encompassed by wooded parkland and is currently under the oversight of the Heritage Trust for the North-West. An exploration of East Beach included a tour of Lytham’s famous windmill, now accessible to the public and utilized as a living space.

After a careful deliberation of my lunch options, I ultimately settled on indulging in Mediterranean cuisine at the Olive Tree Brasserie, which is located in the bustling main square. Following my meal, I made my way across to the Heritage Centre where they showcase the work of talented local artists through their thought-provoking exhibitions. It appeared that a visit to Lytham’s renowned real ale pub, known as the Taps, was a natural choice. As I savoured a delicious pint of dark mild in a relaxed setting, I felt rejuvenated and almost prepared to engage in another exuberant session of singing at Ma Kellys. The remarkable destination of Aberystwyth & the Dovey estuary boasts an exceptional promenade alongside pleasurable activities such as paddling, ice-cream consumption, and pier strolls, making it a notable holiday spot. Additionally, the Voyager space probe’s departure from our solar system in is a subject of great interest.

Learninng Outcome

As our day trip to Lytham comes to an end, the memories of our visit will linger on. The picturesque scenery, mouth-watering breakfast, and historic sites made for an unforgettable experience. The sight of the imposing Lytham Hall towering over its wooded parkland and the tour of its impressive architecture showed us just how rich England’s heritage is. Getting the opportunity to visit a famous windmill was a cherry on top of an already perfect day. This trip reminded us that sometimes, small towns can hold great surprises, and it’s worth exploring them.
