This is a story about how a starting pitcher can help your team win games and make things happen.

What led to the Rockies’ victory.

The Rockies had a great offense in 2018, as they led the NL in OPS (.871). The Dodgers were not able to score any runs against them, and they needed to make sure their defense was good in order to win. They did an excellent job of doing that, as they finished the season with a batting average of .266. However, their starting pitcher was not ideal, and they didn’t have enough innings to win.

What the Rockies did well.

The Rockies offense was on point in their 5-2 win over the Dodgers.Leadoff hitter Anthony Rizzo led off the game with a home run and batting champion Nolan Arenado followed suit with a two-run homer in the fourth. The Rockies bullpen allowed just one run over six innings, which was an impressive feat given that they had to work extremely hard to keep the Dodgers from scoring. The Rockies defense was also very good in this game. Starting pitcher Tyler Chatwood allowed just two runs on five hits over six innings, while left fielder Troy Tulowitzki made some excellent catches down the stretch. Overall, the Rockies performance shows that they can play any type of game and are capable of winning any matchup.

The Rockies played good defense

The Dodgers didn’t manage to score a run until late in the game thanks to starting pitcher Clayton Kershaw’s strong pitching performance. However, by playing good defense throughout the game, the Rockies were able to limit Kershaw’s damage and come out on top 5-2. Starting shortstop Troy Tulowitzki made some fantastic plays at second base and center field, as did defensive back up catcher Jorge Alfaro. This great effort by the defense was likely helped by manager Mike Scioscia using nearly every player on deck most of the game (save for starter Chatwood).

The Rockies bullpen was good

rotations coach Jeff Banister used several pitchers in relief throughout the game and they all pitched effectively. Lefty reliever Jarad Eickhoff relieved Chatwood after he gave up two runs on three hits over four innings; righty reliever Alex Wood relieved Tulowitzki after he gave up one run on three hits over two innings; and lefty reliever Will Smith relieved Alfaro after he gave up one run on two hits over one inning. This bullpen was able to keep the Dodgers at bay for most of the game.

The Rockies played with a lot of intensity

rotations coach Jeff Banister used an intense approach when managing the game. He called every baserunner out and focused on getting his pitchers into position to pitch. This led to a high-intensity game that helped the Rockies win 5-2. Starting pitcher Tyler Chatwood was particularly aggressive, giving up just two walks over six innings while striking out 11 batters.

What the Dodgers did well.

The Dodgers played with a lot of intensity in their last start, limiting the Dodgers to just one run over eight innings. Their bullpen was also very good, holding the Dodgers scoreless through seven innings. This allowed them to go on to win 5-2.

The Dodgers bullpen was good

The Dodgers bullpen was especially good against the Dodgers, holding them to only two hits over seven innings. This allowed them to win 5-2.

The Dodgers played with a lot of intensity

They played with a lot of energy all game, including making nine consecutive strikeouts in the seventh inning to record the first such streak in Dodger history. This helped them win 5-2.

Conclusion

The Dodgers overall offensive performance was what led to their victory. However, the Rockies defense was also a big factor in their win. Their bullpen was very good, and they played with a lot of intensity. Overall, the Dodgers had a good season, but they could have done better if they had been able to start pitcher Clayton Kershaw or if they had possessed a better defense.
